Vacuum Pressure Impregnated - Kiln Dried After Treatment (KDAT) Lumber, Plywood, Timber, Shake Shingles, Architectural, Millwork, Specialty Treatments
ACCREDITED 3RD PARTING TESTING
ASTM E84 CLASS “A” - UL 723 TYPE 1 - NFPA 255 - UBC 42-1

Fire Retardant Vacuum Pressure Impregnation
is a manufacturing process for fire retardant treating large quantities of lumber, plywood and timbers by forcing fire retardant solutions deep into the voids and cells of the wood. The moisture laden fire retardant wood is then Kiln Dried after Treatment (KDAT) 19% for lumber and timbers and 15% for plywood
Fire resistance refers to that property of materials and their component assemblies (fire rated assemblies) which prevents or retards the passage of excessive heat, hot gases or flames under conditions of use. A fire resistance rating is the time in hours or fractions thereof that materials or their assemblies will resist fire exposure as determined by fire tests (ASTM E119).
Flame Safe Wood Products fire retardant lumber, fire retardant plywood, fire retardant timber and fire retardant wood specalties have been tested by accredited third party testing agencies. Flame Safe warrants it’s products to perform as tested and will furnish test reports upon request, in addition to those published on FLAME SAFE'S web site
Flame Safe lumber is kiln dried to a moisture content not to exceed 19%. Flame Safe plywood is kiln dried to a moisture content not to exceed 15%. Flame Safe’s finished moldings and trim is kiln dried to a maximum moisture content of 6 to 12 % depending on the species and specific use. Pitch in the wood is crystallized permitting interior and exterior finishes to be easilly applied. When kiln dried, Flame Safe fire retardant treated wood becomes lighter and stronger, maximizing it's structural uses.

EXTERIOR FLAMEPROOF LUMBER

For those specifications that call for an exterior flame retardant lumber or exterior fire retardant plywood that will have exposure to the elements or high humidity conditions Flame Safe X-T is the product of choice.

In addition to passing the ASTM E84 Class A (UL723 Type 1)test which all exterior flame retardant lumber and plywood must pass, Flame Safe X-T will exhibit no increase in the listed classification when subjected to the standard rain test ASTM-D2898.

Flame Safe X-T has a clear finish which can be stained with a water based stain or painted with latex based paint. Flame Safe X-T is an exterior fire retardant treatment for lumber, plywood, timbers, wood pallets, and specialty wood products. Applications such as exterior decks, balconies, stairs or siding are the notable examples of where Flame Safe X-T would be the logical choice.

PROPERTIES OF FLAME SAFE FLAME RETARDANT LUMBER and PLYWOOD

Permanence: Flame Safe exterior and interior flame retardant lumber and plywood is a permanent guard against the spread of flame

Strength: Flame Safe's aqueous based resin treatment and kiln-drying process strengthens the wood

Hygroscopicity: Flame Safe's exterior and interior flame retardant lumber and plywood is no more hygroscopic than untreated wood of any given species

Corrosion: Flame Safe exterior and interior flame retardant lumber and plywood does not demonstrate any greater corrosion rate than untreated wood on metal fasteners or hardware

Decorating and Finishing: Flame Safe exterior and interior flame retardant lumber surfaces can be stained and painted with ordinary preparation, however avoid using lacquer based stains or varnishes

Field Cuts: Flame Safe exterior and interior flame retardant wood allows the user to re-surface, mill, or rip lumber or plywood provided the exposed surfaces are coated with Flame Safe fire retardant coating (Fire Poly)

Versatility: Flame Safe exterior and interior flame retardant lumber and plywood is compatible with most waterborne preservative treatments for lumber, plywood and timber for exterior and in ground use

Fire Retardant Treated Timbers

Softwood Plywood:
Cedar, Douglas Fir, SPF (Spruce, Pine, Fir) Redwood - typically used for commercial construction & industrial purposes

Hardwood Plywood:
Birch - excellent strength, stiffness and resistance to creep - it has a high planar shear strength and impact resistance, which makes it especially suitable for heavy-duty floor and wall structures

Aircraft plywood:
Mahogany and/or birch - high strength plywood

Marine Plywood:
Manufactured from durable face and core veneers, with few defects so it performs longer in humid and wet conditions and resists delaminating and fungal attack - used in docks and boats

GRADE DESCRIPTION USES
A/B Face veneers practically free from all defects. Reverse veneers with only a few small knots or discolorations Stainable Cabinetry
and Wall Panels
